Good Night, and Good Luck

Good Night, and Good Luck at Winter Garden Theater

Why see Good Night, and Good Luck?

George Clooney's Broadway Debut

A-list Hollywood star George Clooney makes his long-awaited Broadway debut in this stage adaption of the 2005 Oscar-nominated movie Good Night, and Good Luck. (directed by Clooney himself). The play is directed by Tony-winner David Cromer and is based on the original screenplay. Set at the height of McCarthyism, Clooney plays broadcaster Edward R. Murrow as he faces off with U.S. Senator McCarthy in a televised, history-making event that finally saw the tide turn on the senator's rampant and largely baseless campaign against the 'communists' he believed to be infiltrating much of American life, media and politics.

What Is The Story?

Set in the 1950s, when the Communist 'witch hunt' is at its peak, the play chronicles the daring endeavors of legendary broadcaster Edward Murrow and his producer Fred Friendly as they challenge Senator McCarthy's intimidation tactics. Despite facing resistance from CBS and the constraints imposed by sponsors, Murrow confronts the establishment to unmask the falsehoods propagated in McCarthy's anti-communist crusade. While concerning events of over 60 years ago the events of Good Night and Good Luck and the true story it is based on remain a vital reminder of the role of the media in challenging fallacies from overblown individuals at any cost.
