This new stage production straight from Germany is based on the Academy Award-winning film "Rocky". This brand new production features a score by Ragtime Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Co-produced by the original star, Sylvester Stallone himself, this innovative new musical has been nominated for four Tony awards including Best Choreography. It took away one award from the ceremony, Christopher Barreca's recreation of 1970's Philadelphia winning for Best Scenic Design of a Musical.
Set in Philadelphia, the musical tells the tale of a down-and-out fighter who takes one last shot at achieving his dreams and finding love. It's timeless story of perseverance and overcoming the odds is now turned into a high-adrenaline theatre experience!
The production stars Andy Karl and Margo Seibert as the two lovers, Rocky and Adrian, and initially ran in Hamburg as Rocky das Musical - where it received much praise from critics.
"I couldn't be more proud or more excited about this production and how my original story of Rocky Balboa has been brought to spectacular life onstage," Stallone said in a statment. "The story of Rocky was very much like my life at the time - starting out with nothing, having to fight for roles and recognition. So I put those feelings into the body of a boxer and I had no idea there were so many millions of people that felt the same way."
