Step Right This Way For Kinky Boots
Don't miss the feel-good spectacular, must end April 7!
Boasting an irresistible score from pop icon Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots is a joyful gem of a show, wrapping all its glitz and glamour around a true emotional core. Based on the 2005 British movie starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Joel Edgerton, it's the story of an unlikely friendship between fledgling business man Charlie Price and sassy drag queen Lola, and how the two of them fight to save Charlie's shoe factory by producing a very different line of footwear.
Kinky Boots held a tryout in Chicago in 2012 before making its Broadway debut the following year. An instant smash hit, it swept the board at the Tony Awards, winning six of its thirteen nominations, including Best Musical, and has now played over 1500 performances and been seen by over six million people world wide.
With a penchant for choosing guest stars from the worlds of music, television, film, comedy and more, Kinky Boots always keeps it fresh! Is your fave one of the ones to step into those famous boots?
What Kinky Boots is all About?
Charlie Price has just moved into his new London flat when he gets the tragic news of his father's passing. Hurrying back home to the industrial city of Northampton, he's shocked to discover that he's inherited his father's ailing shoe factory, Price & Son. Near the point of bankruptcy, Price & Son's hard-wearing but not too stylish brand of footwear is going out of fashion fast, and the inexperienced Charlie is initially at a loss as to how to turn the company round. That is until he has a chance encounter with the whipsmart drag queen Lola, who is sporting a very fetching pair of high heels...
Under Lola's guidance, Charlie puts a new business plan into action. From now on, Price & Son will make custom women's shoes for men! It's a crazy plan, but it might just work...
Did you know?
While it may seem unlikely, Kinky Boots actually takes its inspiration from real events. The original 2005 movie was based upon the story of family-run British shoe factory W.J. Brooks Ltd, who kept their business running by branching out into fetish footwear in the 1990s.
