Pretty Woman Announces Closing Date!

Author News DeskNews Desk, July 4th, 2019

Taking its final bow on August 18.

After opening on Broadway in July last year the Bryan Adams' scored musical, Pretty Woman has announced that it will be closing at the Nederlander theater on Broadway on August 18. At the time of closing, Pretty Woman will have played 27 preview and 427 regular performances.

Current stars Samantha Barks, who plays Vivian, and Andy Karl, who plays Edward, will depart the production on July 20. Jillian Mueller and Brennin Hunt will take over the roles of Vivian and Edward from July 22 through to the end of the run.

Pretty Woman is directed by and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell and features a libretto by the late Garry Marshall (who directed the original '90s movie) and J.F. Lawton.

What is Pretty Woman about?

A ruthless and driven business tycoon, Edward specializes in taking over businesses and then selling them off, piece by piece, totally unsympathetic to the hundreds of employees' lives he destroys. During a trip to LA, he finds himself without a partner for series of schmaltzy functions, so hires a sex worker to act as his escort. The lady of the night he chooses is Vivian, who much like Edward, goes about her work with a clinical detachment.

As their week together progresses, this usually isolated couple find themselves utterly comfortable in each other's company and discover that they might just be falling for each other. Can this blossoming romance turn both of their lives around?

Pretty Woman is now playing at the Nederlander Theater through to August 18.
