Carly Rae Jepsen and Lena Dunham Join Forces for Broadway Musical Adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You

We really, really, really, really, really, really like that idea!
It's been more than two decades since the cultural phenomenon that launched the careers of Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt - and the world still can't take its eyes off 10 Things I Hate About You! The 1999 film, itself a clever teen spin on Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, is packed with '90s charm and drama. Now, Carly Rae Jepsen is stepping in to put her pop pen to the theater test, composing an all-new score for a Broadway adaptation.
Jepsen is no stranger to musical theatre, having starred in Broadway's Cinderella and Fox's Grease: Live. Joining her is Lena Dunham - creator of HBO's Girls and the upcoming Netflix series Too Much - who will make her Broadway writing debut with this project. Dunham will co-write the show's book with award-winning playwright Jessica Huang.
What's the Story?
The plot follows sisters Kat and Bianca Stratford. Bianca wants to date, but their overprotective father won't allow her to - unless her older sister Kat does first. The problem? Kat is fiercely independent and staunchly anti-dating. To get around the rule, a classmate hires the school bad boy, Patrick Verona, to woo Kat - but things get complicated when genuine feelings begin to blossom.
A creative team of Broadway greats will join the project, including Christopher Wheeldon - the Tony Award-winning director and choreographer of An American in Paris and MJ: The Musical, Tom Kitt, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer of Next to Normal on arrangements and orchestrations and Broadway producer Mike Bosner, known for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Shucked, will produce the show in partnership with Buena Vista Theatrical.
Details such as opening night and theater location are still under wraps,
