Not one, not two, but twenty-three characters is what Izzard will play in this sparkling adaptation. The Tony nominee will take on all the parts and is offering the solo version of Hamlet through March 3 at Off-Broadway's Greenwich House Theater.
In Hamlet, The King of Denmark is dead, and Prince Hamlet is determined to take revenge, initiating a cascade of events that will destroy both family and state.
Who are the creatives of Eddie Izzard: Hamlet?
The six-week engagement is directed by Selina Cadell (Wild Child (2008), Match Point (2005), Doc Martin (2004). Mark Izzard has penned the adaptation of the Shakespeare classic. The two also worked with Eddie Izzard on Great Expectations.
The production also has set design by Tom Piper, lighting by Tyler Elich, costume styling by Tom Piper and Libby DaCosta, and movement direction by Didi Hopkins.
A Tony nominee for her performance in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Izzard was also seen on Broadway in Race. Her London stage credits include The Cryptogram, Edward II, 900 Oneonta, Joe Egg, and Charles Dickens's Great Expectations.
