Andrew Lloyd Webber Announces New Musical 'The Illusionist' Directed By Jamie Lloyd
Based On The 2006 Movie Starring Edward Norton
Andrew Lloyd Webber, the maestro of musical theatre, has announced his latest musical, The Illusionist.
This new musical, loosely inspired by the 2006 Neil Burger film of the same name, will be directed by the acclaimed Jamie Lloydknown for his critically acclaimed work on The Effect and Romeo and Juliet starring Tom Holland. The film, led by Edward Norton, follows a magician in Vienna who uses his powers to win the heart of a woman from a higher social class. While it remains to be seen how closely the musical will adhere to the movie's storyline, fans can certainly expect some spectacular magic tricks. Producer Michael Harrison hinted at the importance of illusions, stating, "Whoever the magic person is, and we don't know who it is yet, they'll be heavily involved because it's very important, obviously, if you're doing a show called The Illusionist, that there be good illusions".
The musical is co-created with Oscar winner Chris Terrio (Argo, Justice League) and co-produced by Michael Harrison. Adding to the excitement, British songwriter Bruno Major is also contributing to the project. Although not yet confirmed, it is highly likely that The Illusionist will premiere in both London's West End and New York's Broadway.
