Jinkx Monsoon Boards Roundabout's New Pirates of Penzance Musical
The Little Shop of Horrors star and Drag Race legend joins David Hyde Pierce and Ramin Karimloo in this jazzy new take on Gilbert and Sullivan's seafaring classic!
Jinkx Monsoon season continues as the actress joins the crew as Ruth, alongside David Hyde Pierce as the Major General and Ramin Karimloo as the Pirate King. Previously announced for Roundabout Theatre Company's 2024/25 season, the revival has also changed it name and will now sail under the new moniker: Pirates! The Penzance Musical.
Adapted from Gilbert and Sullivan's beloved work by Rupert Holmes and with choreography by Choreographed by Warren Carlyle, Pirates! will see the action moved from the coast of Victorian-era Cornwall to New Orleans, adding Caribbean beats and French Quarter jazz rhythms to the piece.
Including beloved tunes such as 'The Modern Major-General's Song,' Pirates promises to be as witty and dazzling as ever, as a young apprentice's tenure with the meddlesome pirates plays out in hilarious style!
What is the story?
The Pirates of Penzance introduces us to young Frederic, for whom his approaching 21st birthday means freedom from his apprenticeship to a band of wily pirates.
When he meets the beautiful Mabel and falls head over heels, his release couldn't come sooner. But the course of true love is as bumpy as the seven seas, especially when he discovers he was born on a leap year!
