As spring makes its first forays, Broadway also blooms this month, with plenty of new shows to brighten your day. A huge month for starry Broadway debuts and marvelous musicals, see our guide to the shows theatre fans will be looking forward to this March.

Good Night, and Good Luck
Previews begin March 12, opens April 3
Winter Garden Theatre

Clooney's Broadway Debut
A-list Hollywood star George Clooney makes his long-awaited Broadway debut in this stage adaption of the 2005 Oscar-nominated movie Good Night, and Good Luck. (directed by Clooney himself). The play is directed by Tony-winner David Cromer and is based on the original screenplay. Set at the height of McCarthyism, Clooney plays broadcaster Edward R. Murrow as he faces off with U.S. Senator McCarthy in a televised, history-making event that finally saw the tide turn on the senator's rampant and largely baseless campaign against the 'communists' he believed to be infiltrating much of American life, media and politics.

Glengarry Glenross
Previews begin March 10, opens March 31
Palace Theatre

Bill Burr and Bob Odenkirk make their stage bows alongside Succession's Kieran Culkin
Directed by the Tony-winning Patrick Marber (Leopoldstadt), this much-anticipated
revival marks the classic play's third Broadway outing since its premiere in 1984 - the very production that lured a young Marber into his career. He explained the upcoming project: "The play blew my young soul away. It was one of the reasons I wanted to work in theatre. Forty years later, I am so thrilled to be directing it on Broadway with these incredible actors. I will do my utmost to ensure that this great American play brings audiences the same great pleasures it brought to me."

Othello
Now in previews, opens March 23
Ethel Barrymore Theatre

Denzel and Jake tackle The Bard in this tense drama
The stars are set to swap the screen for a Shakespearean script as Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal headline a Broadway revival of Othello! Directed by the acclaimed Kenny Leon and set for spring 2025, this highly anticipated production will see Washington taking on the role of the titular Moorish general, while Gyllenhaal steps into the shoes of the infamous villain Iago. Joining Washington and Gyllenhaal will be rising West End star Molly Osborne in the role of Desdemona!

Sarah Snook's tour-de-force Oscar Wilde adaptation
Fresh off her acclaimed run in London's West End, Sarah Snook, best known for her role in Succession, is set to bring her smash-hit one-woman production of The Picture of Dorian Gray to Broadway in 2025. Created by Kip Williams, this production will use both live performance and video to create a vivid and exciting new iteration of the tale of the morally ambiguous aristocrat, who remains as young and vital as ever while his hidden portrait gathers the scars of his many sins.

Stranger Things - The First Shadow

The astounding prequel to the  Stranger Things universe
Winner of two Olivier Awards including Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play! After a West End premiere, Broadway is set to be turned upside down due to this exciting new addition to the Duffer Brother's Stranger Things universe. Taking us back to the town of Hawkins in 1959, this new story by Kate Trefry, the Duffer Brothers, and playwright of the moment, Jack Thorne, features some of the Netflix show's favorite characters, including a young Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Bob Newbie as they grapple with the first shadows of danger in the sleepy small town.

London's favorite show comes to Broadway
After an incredible West End run, this audacious World War II musical is crossing the Atlantic and landing on Broadway! Operation Mincemeat tells a true story of deception so incredible, you won't believe it helped the British ultimately win the war. The question is, how did a well-dressed corpse wrong-foot Hitler?

Written by collective SplitLip, Operation Mincemeat's Broadway transfer comes following sold-out runs on London's West End and winning the Olivier and WhatsOnStage award for 'Best New Musical'.

Boop-oop-a-doop! Cultural icon Betty Boop will finally get her time center stage as this brand-new musical comes to Broadway following a Chicago try-out. Created by a starry team of Tony and Grammy-winning talent including direction from Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots) and music from David Foster, this exciting new musical will see the beguiling 30s cartoon come to life in her own fully staged story. Taking place on her day off - we'll see Betty step out of her black-and-white world to spend the day in New York City, where she discovers a vibrant universe of color and joy.

Fade in on a girl...

Hold onto your Playbills, a brand new musical is set to light up Broadway in 2025 and it's based on the cult hit series Smash! The brand new tuner reunites the writing duo behind the TV show's razzle-dazzle numbers, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The pair's beloved songs garnered an Emmy nomination for the memorable tune "Let Me Be Your Star". With direction from Susan Stroman and choreography from Joshua Bergasse, the production will star Robyn Hurder as Ivy and Caroline Bowman as Karen, the two actresses vying for the coveted role of Marylin in the musical's musical within a musical. Smash fans, our time has finally come!

Sondheim's Old Friends was a true smash-hit success during its 2023 West End run, selling out quicker than Mrs. Lovett's meat pies, and even making its way onto the BBC! A tribute concert of all tribute concerts - Old Friends is devised by Cameron Mackintosh and presented with Mackintosh and Daryl Roth. Old Friends will be an in-depth revue featuring some of Sondheim's greatest songs, performed by the very best talents, featuring elements from Out Of The Woods, Sweeney Todd, and many, many more from the Sondheim scrapbook!

Just in Time

The Groff is back!

Fresh off his Tony win for Merrily We Roll Along, Jonathan Groff returns to Broadway in Just In Time, an exciting new jukebox biographical musical celebrating the life and music of the legendary Bobby Darin. Directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers, this immersive production will transform the Circle in the Square Theatre into a nightclub, complete with a live big band on stage. Set to Darin's timeless hits such as "Splish Splash," "Mack the Knife," and "Dream Lover," the show traces his meteoric rise and lasting influence in the music industry.
