Author News DeskNews Desk, July 16th, 2019

The diner will shut up shop on January 5.

After three years at the Brooks Atkinson Theater the Sara Bareilles scored musical, Waitress will take its final bow on Broadway on January 5, 2020. The musical currently stars Shoshana Bean as the 'baker with a big heart' Jenna.

Waitress began previews on March 25, 2016, before officially opening on April 24 of the same year. At the time of closing, Waitress will have performed 33 previews and 1,544 regular performances. The landmark musical made history as the first Broadway musical with an all-female creative team, with a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Lorin Latarro.

The musical currently stars Erich Bergen as Dr. Pomatter (until July 21 with Mark Evans taking over July 23), Charity Angel Dawson as Becky, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn, Ben Thompson as Earl, Larry Marshall as Old Joe, Benny Elledge as Cal and Noah Glavin as Ogie.

YouTube sensations Collen Ballinger (Miranda Sings) and Todrick Hall will be joining the cast as Dawn and Ogie for a limited month-long engagement from August 20.

In her five-star review, our Broadway reviewer Nicola called Waitress "truly stunning". Read Nicola's Full Review Here.

What is Waitress about?

Suffocated by both the small Southern town where she lives, and her controlling husband Earl, Jenna longs for escape. Her only solace comes from working in the local diner, where she can practice her passion for baking. Jenna's crumbly pastries and crinkly crusts are renowned the town over, and by a stroke of luck, they might just offer her an escape route! A pie-making contest is announced in a nearby town, with a potentially life-changing cash prize for first place. Jenna realizes this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity and is determined to grab it with both hands!

Waitress is now playing at the Brooks Atkinson Theater through to January 5, 2020.
