Tituss Burgess set to join Oh Mary! as Mary Todd Lincoln
The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Schmiggadoon star will step into Broadway's funniest new play on March 18
Be sure to bring a covered dish! The hilarious Tituss Burgess will don Mary Todd Lincoln's bonnet for a limited run, taking over from Glow star Betty Gilpin from March 18. Last seen on Broadway in Moulin Rogue! and a veteran of the stage, audiences will be able to enjoy Burgess in Cole Escola's comedy biopic for three weeks until April 6.
Speaking on the announcement, Burgess said "Oh, Mary! blew me away when I saw it on Broadway. Cole Escola is a genius! The show is fresh and impossibly funny. I understand the role of Mary Todd Lincoln maybe a little too well. I'm over the moon with joy that I get to join the company at The Lyceum Theatre."
What is the story of Oh Mary!?
In early 1865, Abraham Lincoln was swiftly and unknowingly approaching the end of his life. During this time, we see Mary, his "foul and hateful wife" stifled and unhappy, dealing with a life that wasn't what she intended as she works her way through her lifelong desires and unfulfilled dreams. In this raucous five-star comedic tour-de-force, we see Mary launch herself into the world of theatre with aplomb, leading to a fantastically ridiculous finale as silly as Lincoln himself was serious!
